Joker: Folie à Deux is the highly anticipated sequel to 2019's Joker, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, who reprises his role as Arthur Fleck (the Joker). The film introduces Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, bringing a new dynamic to the story. Unlike the first film, this sequel is a musical, with both Phoenix and Gaga performing musical numbers, making it a unique blend of psychological thriller and musical theater.
The story picks up with Arthur Fleck in Arkham Asylum, where he meets Harley Quinn, who starts as his psychiatrist. Their complex and toxic relationship is at the heart of the plot, with themes of love, delusion, and mayhem unfolding through musical sequences. Zazie Beetz returns as Sophie Dumond, while new cast members include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Harry Lawtey in undisclosed roles.
Filming took place in various locations, including New York and Los Angeles, with Gotham City’s setting taking on an operatic and surreal tone this time around, reflecting the film’s musical elements.
Joker: Folie à Deux is set for release in October 2024
